Our Story
Hidden on Martinborough’s famed Golden Mile, Stoney Farm is a regenerative farm and developing truffière where Black Périgord and Burgundy truffles grow alongside sheep, cattle, trees and a healthy dose of optimism.
We’re not lifelong farmers.
We’re curious learners, parents, food lovers and owners of two enthusiastic Vizslas who may or may not become exceptional truffle dogs.
What started as a dream for a little more land and a few more adventures has become a journey of growing truffles, raising free-range kids, restoring the land and sharing what we’re learning along the way.

Our Truffles
At Stoney Farm, we’re growing two truffle species: the Black Périgord Truffle and the Burgundy Truffle. While they differ in flavour and character, both rely on a partnership between fungi, tree roots and the special conditions found on our Martinborough farm.
In April 2020, we planted the first trees of what would become our truffière. Today, just under 1,000 truffle-inoculated trees are growing across the farm.
The Black Périgord Truffle (Tuber melanosporum) is the species most people think of when they hear the word truffle. Our Périgord truffles are grown on Holm Oak (Quercus ilex), a tree species widely used in truffle orchards around the world.
Alongside them, we’re establishing Burgundy Truffles (Tuber aestivum var. uncinatum), a species with a gentler flavour profile and notes of hazelnut, woodland earth and fresh mushrooms. They’re grown on a mixture of Holm Oak, Hazel, Turkey Oak and Cork Oak in a forest setting.
